Wall Street stumbles into September

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Markets tumbled Tuesday, as investors retreated at the start of what is typically a rough month, betting that the six-month stock advance has raced ahead of the economic recovery. "I think we've had a nice run and it's time for a bit of a pullback," said Tom Schrader, managing director at Stifel Nicolaus. "I wouldn't be surprised if we moved back to the 880 level (on the S&P 500) before moving back up." A drop to the 880 level would constitute a slide of about 12% from the current levels. LeBron James Investors nitpicked through the morning's better-than-expected reports on housing and manufacturing but found little reason to jump back into the fray. The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) lost 186 points, or almost 2%. The S&P 500 (SPX) index fell 23 points, or 2.2%. The Nasdaq composite (COMP) fell 40 points, or 2%. "I think the 'whisper number' for [the manufacturing report] was higher and once people digested that, the market swung in the other direction," said Schrader. Schrader said that investors were also reacting to the "calendar influence," amid a variety of reports about the tendency for September to be a weak month on Wall Street. September is typically the biggest percentage loser of the month for the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite, according to the "Stock Trader's Almanac." Nike AIR Force 1 "The reports this morning were positive, but investors are basically saying that stocks have had a good run up and now it's time to take some profits," chimed in Phil Orlando, chief equity market strategist at Federated Investors. Stocks have essentially been on the rise since March, as investors have welcomed extraordinary fiscal and monetary stimulus and signs that corporate profits and the economy have stabilized. The major gauges ended last week at the highest levels in 9 to 10 months. Financial shares took a beating Tuesday after enjoying a nice ride through the late summer, fueled largely by speculation and momentum. But with the S&P up 52% from the March 9 lows, market participants are now looking for concrete evidence that the economy is recovering. The morning's reports were positive, but perhaps not as positive as the most optimistic forecasts. Wednesday preview: Two readings on the labor market are due Wednesday in the lead up to Friday's big August jobs report. Payroll services firm ADP is expected to report that employers in the private-sector cut 246,000 jobs from their payrolls in August after cutting 371,000 in July. nike air jordan 3.5 Additionally, Challenger, Gray & Christmas, an outplacement firm, will report on the number of announced job cuts in August. A July reading on factory orders is also due in the morning from the Commerce Department. Other reports include the minutes from the last Federal Reserve policy meeting, the weekly crude oil inventories report and the July reading on factory orders. Manufacturing: The Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing index for August showed growth in the sector for the first time since January 2008. The index rose to 52.9 from 48.9 previously. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com thought it would rise to 50.5. Pending home sales rose for the sixth straight month, jumping 3.2% in July, to the highest point in nearly two years, according to a report from the National Association of Realtors released Tuesday morning. The index rose 3.6% in June. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com thought sales would rise 1.5% in July. Construction spending fell 0.2% in July versus forecasts for an unchanged reading. Spending rose a revised 0.1% in June. Financials: Many of the summer's big bank sector winners led the declines Tuesday. Kobe Bryant Dow component Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500) slipped 6.4% in active NYSE trading. BofA was the biggest Dow gainer in the June through August period, rising 56%. Dow component American Express (AXP, Fortune 500) lost 5.4% Tuesday. Over the last three months, AmEx has gained 36% and was the second-best Dow performer. Dow component JPMorgan Chase (JPM, Fortune 500) lost 4.1% after rising 17% this summer. Among other movers, Citigroup (C, Fortune 500) lost 9% after rising 34% in the summer. Regional bank Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB, Fortune 500) lost 6.2% after rising 59% this summer. The KBW Bank (BKX) index fell 5.8% after rising 20% over the summer. Oil prices and stocks: U.S. light crude oil for October delivery fell $1.91 to settle at $68.05 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil prices have been slipping since hitting a ten-month high just below $75 a barrel late last month. Nike AIR Force The decline in oil prices dragged on heavily-weighted energy stocks including Dow components Chevron (CVX, Fortune 500) and Exxon Mobil (XOM, Fortune 500). Auto sales: The government's popular Cash for Clunkers program gave a boost to sales in August, major automakers said. Although a plunge in sales in the last week of the month, following the program's end, suggests the impact will not be far reaching. In August, Ford Motor (F, Fortune 500) reported that sales jumped 17% versus a year ago, its best monthly gain in 4 years. However, the advance was short of expectations for a rise of 22%, according to analysts surveyed by Edmunds.com. Toyota, which had the most Clunker sales of any automaker, said August sales rose 6%, its first year-over-year gain in 16 months. General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) and Chrysler Group both reported year-over-year declines in August on sales that improved from July. Company news: Online auctioneer eBay (EBAY, Fortune 500) said it will sell a large stake in its Skype Internet phone business to a group of investors for $2.75 billion. Kevin Garnett World markets: European markets tumbled, while Asian markets ended higher. On Monday, a selloff in Chinese markets sparked a broader global selloff. Bonds: Treasury prices rose, lowering the yield on the benchmark 10-year note to 3.37% from 3.40% late Monday. Treasury prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Mystery remains over cargo vessel

There has been huge speculation over the reason for its disappearance, ranging from pirates to a mafia dispute to a commercial quarrel. A source linked to the Cape Verde coastguard told AFP news agency christian louboutin shoes the Arctic Sea was outside its territorial waters. The coastguard was informing maritime officials about the ship's movements, the source said, adding: "When the ship enters christian louboutinour jurisdiction, we will decide in consultation with our partners what actions to take." Some reports have put the ship 400 nautical miles north of Sao Vicente. French intelligence said it had found a ship matching the Arctic Sea's description in the area. The Portuguese military would not confirm one of its planes hadChristian Louboutin Evening flown over the vessel. However, the Russian ambassador to Cape Verde, Alexander Karpushin, said he had not been officially informed of the sighting and told Russia's RAI agency the sighting was "not true". Tom Wilkerson, chief executive officer of the US Naval Institute, told the BBC the disappearance raised a number of concerns. "What we're looking at is a ship that's over 4,000 tonnes, withchristian louboutin pumps no transponder working, that now all of the world's searching capability has not been able to find. "Just because the ship doesn't appear to have anything on it of value doesn't mean that someone can't place something there that could be very valuable, and also very dangerous." The crew reported being boarded by up to 10 armed men as the ship sailed through the Baltic Sea on 24 July, but the intruders were reported to have left the vessel on an inflatable boat after 12 hours. There are also reports of the ship being attacked a second time off the Portuguese coast. However the ship's operators said they had no knowledge of the incident and Portugal said the ship was never in its territorial waters. The last known contact with the crew was when the Arctic SeaChristian Louboutin Sandals reported to British maritime authorities as it passed through the Dover Strait. On Friday, the European Union Commission spokesman Martin Selmayr said: "From information currently available it wouldChristian Louboutin Wedges seem that these acts, such as they have been reported, have nothing in common with 'traditional'Christian Loutoutin Boots acts of piracy or armed robbery at sea."

Controller's role in NY air collision studied

Safety regulators differ on importance of phone call * FAA to review safety rules over Hudson River By John Crawley WASHINGTON, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Scrutiny of an air traffic controller's actions, including whether a phone call may havechristian louboutin shoes distracted him, intensified on Friday as investigators released new details about the deadly collision of a small plane and a tourist helicopter over New York's Hudson River last week. Disclosures about how controllers handled the Piper PA-32 aircraftchristian louboutin over a period of minutes also sparked an open controversy between safety regulators and accident investigators, prompting an unusual airing of sensitive information early in a high profile investigation. Five Italian tourists in a helicopter, two passengers in a small plane and the two pilots died on Saturday when their aircraft collided and plunged into the river that separates NewChristian Louboutin Evening York and New Jersey. There were no survivors. The National Transportation Safety Board, which is leading the investigation, suggested a controllers' personal phone conversation during the flight complicated attempts to warn the christian louboutin pumps Piper pilot of the tourist helicopter and other aircraft in the area. "The Teterboro tower controller, who was engaged in a phone call at the time, did not advise the pilot of the potential traffic conflicts" shortly after takeoff, the safety board saidChristian Louboutin Sandals in a written update of the investigation released to reporters. He did try to raise the pilot on his radio about the traffic up ahead after controllers at nearby Newark airport asked him to do so, safety officials said. The pilot did not respond. NTSB and FAA investigators agree that the Teterboro controller, who was not identified and has been suspended forChristian Louboutin Wedges making the personal call while on duty, followed correct procedure by handing off radio control of the Piper to Newark on a different frequency as the plane reached the Hudson. At that point, the FAA said the Teterboro controller's main responsibilities were over. But the NTSB said he should have advised the Piper pilot of traffic over the river a full 40 seconds after technically relinquishing control of the plane. Controllers are not obligated to direct pilots at low altitudes over the Hudson, but they are expected to warn them of any dangers when they become aware of them. The FAA on Christian Loutoutin Boots Friday convened a task force to review those rules. The FAA had no comment on the the safety board report, and stood by a statement made on Thursday that there was no evidence the controller's actions, including the phone call, contributed to the collision. The controller's union, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, said it was premature to suggest the controller's call had anything to do with the accident. Union officials said the Piper pilot did, in fact, acknowledge the Teterboro handoff to Newark but did not respond to warnings after that. They also said the river-area traffic was not immediately visible to the Teterboro tower radar. Regulators say radar images over the Hudson can be unreliable at times. "The controller continued to do his duty throughout what was going on," Ray Adams, a union spokesman based at the Newark tower, told reporters in a conference call Friday night.

Mobile Monday in Zurich - Grinyer's Law

Mobile Monday, an occasional evening for people interested inchristian louboutin shoes design and usability in the mobile phone industry, was held in Zurich on Monday 2 March. I was asked by the sponsors HP and Swisscom to address the audience and chose as my title “I’ve never used that”. On my first day at Orange marketing executive Richard Brennan pointed out that research showed that 90% of people used just 10% of the available functionality in a mobile phone. That research came just as Orange were launching the infamous SPV Microsoft phone, which heralded the start of thechristian louboutin open platform race between Symbian, Microsoft and now Google Android to create a platform for applications and tools that would transform the phone from a communication device to a data munching pocket PC. Up until last year though, the promised avalanche of customer demand for mobile internet and applications did not occur. After 5 years of mobile internet enabled phones, US and European usage was up to about 18% of Smartphone users accessing the internet once a month. Big deal. Then came the iPhone. By making the fundamental decisions right to create a truly internet ready phone, such as a big enough screen and touch technology to replace buttons, even theChristian Louboutin Evening first 2.5 G iPhone was at 98% internet use straight away. And with the 3G phone, it continues to dominate internet data ahead of the me-too chasers from LG, Samsung and Nokia. By opening it’s system to developers, the Apple Apps have for the first time become easy for users to download, find on their phone and use.christian louboutin pumps Some apps are making good money already, the ultimate proof of customer and business value My experience in the mobile phone world had shown me that the prevailing belief is that is much more important to launch technology than spend tome making it usable. The Mobile world is full of technologies and applications that failChristian Louboutin Sandals and deliver no ROI. But this is often put down to the slowness of customers to embrace new innovations on their mobiles which they see as essentially a communication tool and are afraid of issues such as data costs and short battery life. Both the SPV phone and the iPhone have internet browsers. ButChristian Louboutin Wedges it has taken 5 years until the format for delivery was found. If I look at other breakthrough technology and service leaps in mobile, such as mobile and fix line convergence, push to talk, sms, mms, applications, some never make it but those that do seem to take about 5 years. And from my point of view, the reason it takes so long to achieve success is very largely due to design and usability. For my talk in Zurich I created a new law, one which I hope will be proved wrong but I fear will not: ““It takes 5 years before a new mobile technology becomes usable enough that people will actually use it.” This law is a damning indictment on the developers of mobile technology and interfaces. How can they justify such aChristian Loutoutin Boots slow return on investment? And why has this happened? In my view it is down to the culture and nature of mobile companies that are dominated by technology driven assumptions of use and marketing efforts to get to market fast. The end result is anything but fast, or successful. The conversation in Zurich captured many thoughts about companies who launch when design criteria have been achieved, rather than just technology ones. The original Palm Pilot and the iPhone are famous examples. I can name any number of examples of mobile companies launching and then living with disappointment, wondering why success did not come. I suspect there is a similar law in web development. In the internet world, the 3-5 years rule is thought to be more to do with the natural rate that the public learn and understand the value of services. Recent successes in social networking such as Facebook and Twitter may prove my law wrong. But I would argue that they were well designed and thought through from the start, and that allowed reduced the barriers to use and benefit. In addressing what I believe are the answers to poor design affecting adoption and success, I mentioned the Amazon Kindle. This remains my favourite example of a great product hidden by unlovely design, The Amazon replaces a book, that gorgeous, tactile, drop in the bath and dry out (as some else said) object. The Kindle is a white slab of plastic with horrible buttons. The new one looks a bit better, but I do not believe that great company Amazon understood how important design would be to the success of the Kindle. Some one in the audience was aghast that I could suggest that Amazon did not understand design. But that is exactly what I believe, and I believe a great many other companies are incapable of taking design seriously when it plays such as important part in how we chose and live with every thing around us. After 25 years as a designer I am amazed, and occasionally exhausted, to see how removed from business decisions design remains in the minds of senior leadership. How can people not see that this matters and be so inconsiderate and believe that their role does not include responsibility for something that will make or break their businesses. But it seems that Amazon do agree with me, because their new Kindle is a vast improvement and my return from Zurich coincided with a Twitter from Steven Fry commenting the Amazon have been to the Apple Design School (now there’s an idea!) and the new product was a vast improvement. That’s three years of putting up with a rubbish design then, perhaps my law is improving.

much-anticipated first album since

The christian louboutin shoesheadlines were dominated by comeback queens this week--starting with Whitney Houston, who on Tuesday released her first single in six years, the R. Kelly-penned "I Look To You," as a free download on her official website. The title track of her much-anticipated first album since 2002, which finally comes out September 1, is a stripped-down piano ballad that showcases Whitney's world-famous voice, and it is being heralded as a true return to form for the once-troubled diva. "I christian louboutin pumps Look To You" was previewed last week by Sony honcho/longtime Whitney mentor Clive Davis at a star-studded Beverly Hilton Hotel listening party (attended by the likes of Jane Fonda, Barry Manilow, Halle Berry, Stevie Wonder, and Magic Johnson), along with eight other well-received songs that indicated that the fallen queen of R&B/pop might finally be ready reclaim her throne. "I Christian Loutoutin Bootsknow that if I did not have faith, I would have not been able to go through life's tribulations that I have gone through," Whitney declared at the bash via a statement read by Clive, who has been working with Whitney on I Look To You for the past three-and-a-half years. And now the full album's unveiling is only six weeks away! Welcome back, Whitney. Anotherjimmy choo sale diva who's no stranger to comebacks--Mariah Carey, who rebounded from her Glitter career disaster and emotional breakdown with The Emancipation Of Mimi in 2005, and has stayed on top ever since--made news this week regarding her own upcoming new album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel. But it seems fans will have to wait a little bit longer for that release. Memoirs was originally slated for an August 25 street date, but it has now been delayed until September 15 so that Mariah can put the finishing touches on the project. (Lil' Wayne, Diddy, and Amerie also announced this week that they're all postponing their respective albums, so this seems like a puzzling music-biz trend here.) Perhaps the more interesting Mimi-centric headline this week had to do with the ongoing Mariah/Eminem feud. The two superstars reportedly briefly dated years ago, before Mariah married Nick Cannon (although Mariah denies this), and Eminem recently released a Mariah diss track about their alleged relationship, "Bagpipes From Baghdad," that had Nick fuming on his personal blog. Mariah retaliated with her new single "Obsessed," which asked the musical question, "Why're you so obsessed with me?" and was accompanied by a hilarious video starring Mariah as a stalker Shady lookalike who gets run over by a bus.

We christian louboutin shoes taste tested 13 canned chunk light tunas, in water and oil, and reeled in a few winners Everyone has a preferred flavor enhancer for a "mean" tuna salad—celery, apples, relish, olives...the list goes on. But the key ingredient has got to be the tuna itself: Not even a whole jar of mayonnaise can salvage a smelly, soggy can of fish… Canned christian louboutin pumpstuna meat should be firm and flaky, but never mushy. It should be moist but not watery (and certainly not dry). And it has to look appetizing before it's dressed up with seductive ingredients. It was not easy deciding which tunas to feature in our taste test. They come in cans, glass jars, and even pouches, and can be packed in water, vegetable oil, or olive oil. Even more Christian Loutoutin Boots confusing: Tuna varieties sold in cans include albacore, yellowfin, skipjack, and tongol. After much research, we chose to focus our test on canned chunk light skipjack and tongol in both water and oil. Why? Light meat, ie: chunk light tuna (in oil and water) accounts for 75 to 80 percent of annual domestic canned tuna consumption in the U.S., according to The Tuna Council. There is a health issue too: Chunk light skipjack and tongol generally have lower levels of jimmy choo salemercury than albacore and yellowfin (for more information, read Mercury in Canned Tuna and the Seafood Selector entry on canned tuna from the Environmental Defense Fund). Yahoo comes full circle with retreat from search

SAN christian louboutin shoes FRANCISCO (AP) -- Yahoo Inc. invested billions of dollars in its Internet search engine during the past sixchristian louboutin shoes years before realizing it made more sense to entrust the job to an outsider -- hearkening back to a conclusion christian louboutin shoes the company's co-founders reached shortly after they started their Web directory in the mid-1990s. {"s" :christian louboutin shoes "goog, msft, twx, yhoo","k" : "c10,l10,p20,t10","o" : "","j" : ""} The latest shift in direction willchristian louboutin shoes put rival Microsoft Corp. in control of the search results and advertising that appears on Yahoo's highly trafficked Web site, assuming the proposed partnership is approved by antitrust regulators in the United States and Europe. The 10-year deal announced Wednesday blows up a search expansion undertaken under Yahoo's former chief executive, Terry Semel, who resigned under shareholder pressure two years ago. Thechristian louboutin shoes repudiation of Semel's strategy returns Yahoo to a philosophy embraced by co-founders Jerry Yang and David Filo in the company's early days. Within two years of starting what was originally known as "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web," Yang and Filo concluded Yahoo wouldn't be able to index all the new sites proliferating on the Internet without more automation and sophistication. RatherJimmy Choo Sandals than spend its own money on expensive upgrades, Yahoo hired AltaVista to supplement its search engine and then later turned to Inktomi. Those decisions freed up more cash for Yahoo to spend on compelling content and developing other services that established its Web site as the biggest draw on the Internet. As Jimmy Choo Sandalsindexing the Web grew even more complicated in 2000, Yahoo sought the expertise of an ambitious young startup called Google. In a move that the company later regretted, Yahoo promoted the Google brand next to its search box to show where it got its results. The exposure on one of the Web's most popular pages drove millions of people to Google's search engine, which quickly supplanted Yahoo as the go-to place to find stuff on the Web. Boiler Failures - The importance of Boiler Safety

We found a great site* that had some rather interesting photoschristian louboutin shoes of some boiler explosions and their results. None of them are pretty sights, as you can see from this photograph from a 1919 explosion in Mobile, Alabama, but, they do remind us to be careful with our boilers and that means proper maintenance. According to the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, low water conditions are the cause for 50% of all boilerchristian louboutin related accidents. Low water within a boiler means water that falls below a pre-set level recommended by the manufacturer for safe operation. This can result in catastrophic boiler explosions. Perhaps one of the most important controls found on your boiler is the low water cut-off (LWCO). This device can either Christian Louboutin Evening use a float or probes to sense the water level within the boiler. When the water level drops below a pre-set level, the LWCO will cause a switch to activate which, in turn, will cause the automatic fuel valves to close. No fuel - no flame - no opportunity for over pressurizing the boiler. We will take a closer look at LWCOs in future posts. Also, if youchristian louboutin pumps have any interesting photos of boiler occurrences (the polite word for explosion) please send them to us along with, what you believe to be, the cause of the failure. is from a grant scam, you will get tons and tons of emails from scam artist replying to your post asking if you need helpchristian louboutin pumps with your house payment, job, short on money or anything of the sort. The the very second you reply to tell them NO (or whatever) you will get a email in your inbox and now they have your email address. They try to get people to go to there oba ma saving grant page. but keep in mind once you reply they have your email address and they use 100’s of email addresses to mail to you from. I have no sympathy for any of the people falling victim to these scams, if you are online to read them they are a huge numberChristian Louboutin Sandals of ways to check out how valid they are without leaving your computer. Advice To Foreign Basketball Players Seeking College

Scholarships in the U.S. We receive SO MANY questions from foreign players on how to playchristian louboutin shoes college and pro basketball in the U.S. So we decided to compile an article with advice for foreign players. Here is an email Don sent to a foreign player seeking advice: In a choice between education for the future and playing basketball, there is no choice. No matter where you are or who you are, basketball is only a short term situation and yourchristian louboutin future (education) is forever. If you are making a choice, secure your future. That does not mean you have to stop playing basketball. You might have to look for games, but they are around. Use the frustration you feel and develop something for the people who come after you so they do not have to go through the same things that you have to endure. In regard to your obtaining a basketball scholarship, you have to remember that the players you are watching are among the Christian Louboutin Evening best in the world. Of those players only a few (maybe 20) will play professionally in the NBA. The odds of making it are staggering. For someone in your situation, the odds are even longer. Not growing up in a situation where you play in the best competition will certainly limit you chances. What you see on TV is only the top college level. There are many college levels here, NCAA Div. I, Div II, Div III, NAIA (which has 2 divisions) and Junior College (which has 3 divisions). In most cases, if you are not identified as a prospect by your Sophomore year in highchristian louboutin pumps school, your chances of playing Div. I are slim. The lower levels work on a longer time line. You have to get yourself in a situation where you can be seen. My best advice is for you to decide if and where you want to go to school in the U.S. and where. Once you make that decision, contact the coach about the possibility of playing on the team as a “walk-on.” He can tell you the requirements and how to try out. It will be very hard at the highestChristian Louboutin Sandals levels, a little less difficult as you go down in levels. You might be able to earn a scholarship that way. Not all schools give scholarships and at some levels, like NCAA Div. III, athletic scholarships are not allowed. The odds of earning a scholarship this way are slim but it may be better than the situation you are in now. In addition, if you are on a professional team, that might eliminate your eligibility completely. Even if you don’t get paid, if you play on a professional team that negates your amateur status, you will not be able to play in college. I am sorry I cannot be more positive for you, but that is the wayChristian Louboutin Wedges of the world. Give it a shot and see what happens. However, your passion, if channeled properly, bodes well for people who come after you. Work for the betterment of the sport. Start some camps in your town, teach others, networkChristian Loutoutin Boots with people who can make decisions in your favor. You are in a situation where you have to suffer because of decisions that where made by people who came before you. Great change starts with one person making one step.

Issue of Jackson doctor-shopping for drugs raised again

While the coroner's report on what killed Michael Jackson has been delayed indefinitely, new evidence emerged that the singer shopped forchristian louboutin shoes a doctor who would give him the drug investigators suspect led to his death. Dr. Allan Metzger, whose name appeared on a search warrant served this week, refused Jackson's request in April for the anesthetic propofol -- commonly known by the brand name Diprivan, Metzger's attorney said. Investigators suspect another physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, gave thechristian louboutin drug to Jackson in the 24 hours before he died, according to a source, who asked not to be named because the individual was not authorized to speak to the news media. Metzger, who practices in West Hollywood, California, told Jackson duringChristian Louboutin Evening a visit to his Holmby Hills home that the drug was "dangerous and potentially life-threatening and could not be used outside of a hospital," attorney Harland Braun said. Metzger's medical records for Jackson, whom he treated until 2003, have been given to the coroner, Braun said. He said Metzger prescribed drugs for Jackson under the alias Omar Arnold and Michael Jackson, which was not illegal since he used bothchristian louboutin pumps names together. The doctor did that because he thought it was "his duty to protect the privacy" of his patient, Braun said. Omar Arnold is one of 19 aliases listed in the warrant used by Los Angeles police and federal drug agents Tuesday to search the Las Vegas, Nevada, office and home of Murray, a Texas-based cardiologist. The warrant also mentioned Cherilyn Lee, a nurse practitioner who treated Jackson earlier this year. Lee said Jackson begged her for propofol to help him get a good night's sleep. She said she refused, telling the pop star that if he took the medicine, he mightChristian Louboutin Sandals never wake up. The same warrant, signed by a Las Vegas judge, implied that investigators suspected Jackson was a drug addict. Dr. Deepak Chopra said in a recent interview that when Jackson asked him for a narcotic, he told him absolutely no. "I said to him, 'Michael, you're going to die one day from this,' " Chopra said. During a world tour in the mid-'90s, sources close to Jackson told CNN, the pop star suffered from insomnia and traveled with an anesthesiologist who would "take him down" at night and then "bringChristian Louboutin Wedges him back up." According to a report on a 2004 Santa Barbara, California, police investigation, security guards in Jackson's inner circle said he traveled the country getting prescriptions from doctors. The Los Angeles County coroner, who must rule on the cause of Jackson's June 25 death, met Thursday with the Los Angeles District Attorney, who must decide if anyone will be prosecuted for his death. During the meeting, it was decided that an announcement of the coroner's findings would be delayed indefinitely, according to a source close to the investigation. An official in the coroner's office had previously indicated to reporters that the findings would be made public within days. Katherine Jackson goes to court Monday Katherine Jackson's legal battle for some control of her son's estate returns to court Monday in front of the same judge who is expected to award her permanent guardianship of his children. Jackson's lawyers filed a petition Tuesday accusing the men who nowChristian Loutoutin Boots control the estate of being "intent on keeping her in the dark" about deals they've made or are negotiating. Jackson lawyer Londell McMillan raised questions about "a suspicious circle of relationships" involving John Branca, the singer's longtime personal attorney, and John McClain, a music industry executive and longtime friend -- who were named executors in Jackson's will. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff gave Branca and McClain temporary control of the estate until Monday's hearing. In the Jackson lawyers' petition, they asked the judge to order Branca, McClain and others to answer questions under oath about their business agreements to determine if they are "fit and able" to administer the estate. They also served the men with a 19-page demand for documents. Branca has refused to let Katherine Jackson see Michael Jackson's contracts with AEG, the company that was organizing and promoting his planned concerts, unless she agrees to keep them confidential. Branca's lawyer argued in a court filing that he has no choice since the contracts have a provision requiring confidentiality. Branca's lawyers also argued that Jackson's demand for documents was too broad and burdensome. "Such measures will not be necessary if Mrs. Jackson is appointed a co-executor of the estate," McMillan said. McMillan, in an interview with CBS on Thursday, estimated the Jackson estate was worth $2 billion, while the executors have estimated in court that its value is around $500 million. The will written in 2002 places all of Jackson's assets into a family trust benefiting his mother, his three children and unnamed charities. The judge is also expected Monday to finalize Katherine Jackson's guardianship of her son's three children. An agreement between Jackson and Debbie Rowe, the mother of the two eldest children, cleared the way for an uncontested custody hearing. Rowe, who was briefly married to Michael Jackson, agreed not to fight for custody in exchange for visits with the children as recommended by a psychologist. The agreement does not involve any financial payments to Rowe "apart from the continuation of spousal support payments" that Michael Jackson personally agreed to make to Rowe after their divorce, their lawyers said in a joint statement. Jackson's children have been living with their paternal grandmother at her Encino, California, home since their father's death. The eldest child, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., was born in February 1997. A daughter, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, was born the next year. Details of how the children were conceived -- and who was the biological father -- have been closely guarded amid much public speculation. The couple divorced in 1999 with Rowe giving Jackson full custody while she got an $8.5 million settlement, according to court documents. Jackson later agreed to additional support. Rowe gave up parental rights to Jackson in 2001, but she changed her mind more than two years later and sought temporary custody of the children. A California appeals court later ruled her rights were improperly terminated, opening the door to a possible custody battle.

Spain on high alert after bombs

Police in Spain are on heightened alert after two bomb attacks in 48 hours blamed on the Basque separatists, Eta. On Thursday, two Civil Guard officers were killed when a car bomb exploded outside a base in the resort town of Palmanova on the islandchristian louboutin shoes of Majorca. Another car bomb blast on Wednesday destroyed much of a police barrackschristian louboutin in the northern city of Burgos and left more than 50 people slightly wounded. The attacks coincide with the 50th anniversary of Eta's founding. They also come at a time when police resources are stretched because of the start of the holiday season. Several people were injured by the powerful explosion on the busy road, which sent the vehicle flying through the air and set it on fire. Police later defused a second explosive device placed under another civil guard vehicle at a different base on Majorca, officials said. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack yet, but Spain's Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said it bore allChristian Louboutin Evening the hallmarks of Eta. "I want to condemn this new low blow with much rage and pain, but also with much determination," he said in a televised address. "The criminal attack comes at a time when the civil guards and national police, with the co-operation of French security forces, are striking against the terrorist group as never before," he added. Mr Zapatero said Eta members were being "arrested earlier and in greater numbers, and this is the way it will continue to be". "The government has given orders to the security forces to be on maximum alert, to double their work, to increase even more their effortschristian louboutin pumps and to protect themselves from these vile murderers," he added. "They have absolutely no chance of hiding. They cannot escape. They cannot avoid justice. They will be arrested. They will be sentenced. They will spend the rest of their lives in prison." Thursday's attack was the deadliest since two Spanish undercover policemen were shot during an operation in south-western France in December 2007. The BBC's Steve Kingstone in Madrid says that for many months Spaniards have been told by their government that Eta is historically weak, following the arrest of a string of alleged commanders of its military wing, but the past 48 hours have provided chilling evidence to the contrary. Exactly 50 years after it was founded by a small group of radical BasqueChristian Louboutin Sandals students, Eta appears to be making a statement - that it has the capability to strike anywhere, our correspondent says. With the country in its peak tourist season, and with thousands takingChristian Louboutin Wedges to the roads this weekend for their holidays, police resources will be stretched - amid genuine fears of more attacks, he adds.

Jackson autopsy results delayed

The release of Michael Jackson's autopsy results have been delayed until next week, the Los Angeles County coroner's office has said.

The<a href="http://www.christian-louboutin-shoes.cc">christian louboutin shoes</a>  results were due to be revealed this week, amid speculation about the possible role prescription drugs played in the singer's death.

Jackson<a href="http://www.christian-louboutin-shoes.cc">christian louboutin</a> died at his rented home in Los Angeles on 25 June, aged 50.

Pregnancy likely to be swine flu shot priority

ATLANTA — Swine flu has been hitting pregnant women unusually hard, so they are likely to be among the first group advised to get a new swine flu shot this fall. Pregnant women account for 6 percent of U.S. swine flu deaths since the pandemic began in April, even though they make up just 1 percent of the U.S. population. On Wednesday a federal vaccine advisory panel is meeting to take upjimmy choo shoes the question of who should be first to get swine flu shots when there aren't enough for everyone. At the top of the list are health care workers, who would be crucial to society during a bad pandemic. But pregnant women may be near the top of the list because they have suffered and died from swine flu at disproportionately high rates. "Are they more at risk for severe disease? That's the issue," and it appears they are, said Dr. Denise Jamieson, an epidemiologist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pregnant women's risk from swine flu has been a raging topic in Europe, following the contentious suggestion this month by British andjimmy choo Swiss health officials that women should consider delaying pregnancy if they can. Most health officials call that advice unwarranted, but have agreed that the health risks are significant. In a recent report, World Health Organization experts found that pregnant women appear to be "at increased risk for severe disease, potentially resulting in spontaneous abortion and/or death, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy." However, so far, WHO has not recommended that pregnant women get priority vaccinations. Now doctors are waiting to see what's decided by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, whose guidance usually is accepted by the CDC and influences doctors and insurance coverage. For more than a decade, the committee has recommended that pregnant women get vaccinated for seasonal flu, which is considered a serious threat even to pregnant women who are young andjimmy choo sale healthy. Pregnant women are unusually vulnerable — especially in the third trimester — due to changes in the lungs and immune system that make it harder for them to shake off respiratory infections, said Dr. Kevin Ault, an Emory University obstetrician. CDC data indicate swine flu is at least as dangerous. Of 302 U.S. deaths attributed to swine flu to date, the CDC has detailed information on 266 of them. The agency has found that 15 of the 266 were pregnant women — or about 6 percent. The first American with swine flu to die was a pregnant woman in Texas. Judy Trunnell, 33, died May 5 after slipping into a coma and giving birth to a healthy baby girl, delivered by Cesarean section. Some infected pregnant women have other health problems. Trunnell, for example, also had asthma and the skin condition psoriasis. But many of the pregnant women who died were considered relatively healthy, suggesting pregnancy itself is a significant risk, Jamieson said. "I think the whole concept that this flu only affects pregnant women with underlying medical conditions is incorrect," Jamieson said. Experts believe an effective vaccine would benefit not only a pregnant woman but also her unborn child. Infants, whose immune systems are weak, should not get a flu shot until they are at least 6 months old. So whatever immunity they have is passed on to them by their mothers, doctors say. The belief in the protective powers of a mother's vaccination on their unborn children was demonstrated in a study of women in Bangladesh published last year in the New England Journal of Medicine. It found that flu shots given to pregnant women reduced flu in infants by 63 percent. Only about 15 percent of pregnant women get seasonal flu shots, experts noted, so it's not clear how many will get the new shot. Some women avoid regular flu shots, worried about possible risks to the fetus, but studies have not shown any increased dangers from the shot. Until recently, many obstetricians haven't offered them, choosing to avoid the expense of buying and storing vaccine and the hassle of trying to convince reluctant patients, said Dr. William Schaffner, a Vanderbilt University flu expert. "Obstetricians are only now getting with the program and are growing comfortable with administering flu vaccine," he said. It's not clear that the demand for swine flu shots would be much greater. Pregnant patients haven't expressed much concern about swine flu, said the CDC's Jamieson, who is also an obstetrician seeing inner-city patients at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital. "It hasn't been a major concern," viewed as a relatively mild illness. They worry more about economic concerns — "how to take care of the baby, how to get food to eat and how to get safe and secure housing," Jamieson said. So far, swine flu has likely infected more than 1 million Americans, the CDC believes, with at least 300 deaths. The United States expects to begin testing swine flu vaccines on some volunteers in August, and predicts 160 million doses may be ready by October.
